Ruth Tipton served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea for 37 years under the auspices of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union and World Gospel Mission. She worked primarily in translation and literacy. In 2008 she received an honorary doctorate in Christian Leadership from Ohio Christian University. In 2007 when she retired from active missionary work, she enrolled in Asbury Theological Seminary’s PhD program in intercultural-studies, earning a PhD in 2015. She is currently involved in research and writing. She has written a series of short articles for Seedbed about women who preached the Gospel during the 19th century. She has edited several dissertations. She has been accepted to teach as an online adjunct professor for missional formation and anthropology for Christian mission in Asbury Theological Seminary’s distributed learning program.
